Kidman's Top Wedding Gift? Nothing At All

NICOLE Kidman and Keith Urban will ask their wedding guests to donate money to a charity in lieu of giving them gifts.

The couple, each of whom has a massive personal fortune, will suggest a list of charities to their guests when they marry this year.

Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, of which Kidman is a patron, is expected to receive a windfall from the wedding of the Oscar-winning actor and her country singer fiance. The United Nations Development Fund for Women, for which Kidman is an ambassador, may also benefit.

After officially confirming their engagement last week, Urban and Kidman, both 38, are planning what is tipped to be a June wedding in Sydney.

The couple's decision to forgo wedding gifts echoes a gesture being made by an increasing number of Australian couples.

Local charities and care-givers have been benefiting from the benevolence of couples, especially the increasing number who are marrying later in life, when they have established a home and feel they have everything they need.

Hospitals, particularly those who care for children, are reporting an increase in donations from people previously unknown to them.
