Something Old Is New For Newlyweds

BEFORE heading off on their Swiss skiing honeymoon yesterday Merewether's Dr Phillip Holz (right) and new bride Megan (nee Hose, inset) received a wedding gift of a most maritime kind.
A wooden chest delivered by sea on the sailing ship James Craig.
Friends from Bathurst Hans and Helen Jueken wanted to do something special for the newlyweds so Hans made them the beautiful sea chest complete with engraved inscription.
As well as a gifted carpenter, Hans is also a member of the group dedicated to restoring the 19th Century barque that was in town on the weekend as the star attraction for the Maritime Festival.
Keen to keep the ocean-going theme alive for Phillip and Megan's wedding on Saturday at Merewether's Holy Family Catholic Church, Hans ensured that Phillip had to head down to Newcastle wharf that morning to take delivery of his unique gift from Captain Ken Edwards (left of picture).
Phillip's parents Anna and Des said yesterday that the entire wedding party had been gob-smacked by the elaborate show of generosity.
`It's just a pity Megan couldn't have gone on board the James Craig like Phillip to collect the chest,' Mrs Holz said. `She missed out because the bride and groom aren't supposed to see each other before the wedding.'
